Grandma Tanner's Visit

November 2012
During November, Jeff had to take a business trip for about a week. Well, that got the wheels turning and I called up my mom to see if there was any possibility that we could get her out for a visit while Jeff was gone. As it worked out, she was able to come and stay for a few days. The best part- we didn't tell the kids she was coming. We decided to keep it a surprise! She flew in late Wednesday night. I picked her up at the airport after the kids were in bed. So Friday morning she went downstairs as they were playing (kids had a couple days break from school) and completely surprised them! It was so fun! I don't think they've been more surprised for Christmas, Easter, or a birthday.
We spent the day morning playing at home, and then later on that afternoon we decided to take the kids to Chuck E. Cheese. It was fun as always, but even so much more fun because Grandma was there!

Those couple of days just flew by way too fast! We had so much fun running errands, doing a little shopping, taking kids to and from school & preschool, going to Chuck E. Cheese, making a stop at McDonalds one afternoon for happy meals, movie nights, and just enjoying time together. Mom is so awesome and did all sorts of projects around the house and we had every single piece of laundry clean & put away. I think one of my favorite things is watching the kids have so much fun with her, and just having her there to talk with while we're making dinner, or cleaning up, or anything.
The afternoon before Mom had to leave, she made up a fun little treasure hunt for the kids. They had to follow the clues and eventually found their prize at the end. It was so cute.
No one was happy to see grandma leave. Everyone wished she could have stayed at least a week or a month. In fact, when we took Mom to the airport, Emily hadn't really realized what was going on until she saw Mom get her suitcase out of the car. Once it dawned on her that grandma was leaving, she just started to cry and cry. Well, that made Mom and me start to cry too. It was a pretty sad goodbye. Luckily we'll see her next month at Christmas, but it just made me feel a little sad once again that we don't just live closer. I would love to have my mom close. I would love to be close to our families! I was so grateful that she was able to come out. We love any time at all that we get with our families. We're so grateful for them.
